Alta Yarí

Gran Calcáreo Malbec

A red wine from Gualtallary, Argentina. Full-bodied. Made only from Malbec.

The house says

This is the top Malbec of Alta Yarí, Hervé Joyaux Fabre's winery in Gualtallary, in the Uco Valley: the name comes from the limestone in the soil, stony and rich in calcium carbonate, at 1,350 metres and above. 2023 vintage, 100% Malbec, 14.5% alcohol, grapes hand-picked and sorted twice, fermented in small concrete eggs with 30 days of maceration, and 12 months of ageing half in French oak barrels, half in concrete eggs. The importer mentions violet, strawberry, cherry and plum with spice and wet stone, full-bodied, chalky tannins and fresh acidity, and suggests grilled meat (bife de chorizo, flank steak, picanha) and roast kid goat, at 18 °C, after an hour in the decanter. The Descorchados guide 2025 gave it 99 points and named the house Argentina's winery of the year. It is not in the X-Wines base, so it has no rating from drinkers yet. Had it? Toast and tell us.

Basic details checked by the house in Oct 2026; acidity will be added once the house checks the label.

No rating from drinkers yetThis label isn't in the X-Wines database, where the search ratings come from. The house added it because the community asked; the house doesn't make up ratings. The community rating, just below, is a different one: it comes from cellar members.
Had it already? Give it a Cheers and tell us on Open Bottle: that's how it gets a voice.

Are you this wine's producer?

This page comes from the public X-Wines database or from what the house read on the producer's website. Whoever makes the wine knows best: send the official tech sheet, correct what's wrong or ask for it to come down. No producer pays to get in, to move up or to leave, and the sheet you send takes precedence over any other source.

Goes well with

Red meat, barbecue and lamb.

A suggestion, not a rule: if you liked it another way, you're right.

A label outside X-Wines, an open scientific dataset (de Azambuja, R. X. et al., 2023): basic details gathered and checked by the house, in the month shown under “The house says”; no rating, because ratings aren't made up. The price range is the one the house saw at big stores in Brazil, in the month shown: the price changes, the range tends to stay. Shipping isn't included. The house doesn't sell wine.
