The Garimpo

What the house drank, with the price checked

The house buys, drinks, stamps and checks the price, and tells you where it checked and on what day. It’s not a paid recommendation. And only wine the house has drunk gets in here.

Prices checked at trusted stores and online shops. It’s not a PR press release, and it’s not a list of wines nobody can find on the shelf.

No schedule: it comes out when the house finds something worth it. Sometimes three in a week, sometimes none. A garimpo on a fixed date turns into a quota, and quotas breed filler.

The rule that doesn’t bend: a bottle the house hasn’t opened yet isn’t a garimpo; it’s on the shopping list.

Opening the Garimpo…

What wine is this? Saw a label on the shelf and don’t know what it is? The house search has more than 23,000 labels with a fact sheet, grape and rating, no fuss →

What the table opened

Readers who opened a bottle and told us: a photo if you like, the house’s checkboxes and a line that’s all yours.

How it works

Two voices, and each one says who drank

A wine card usually mixes everything up: who tasted it, who paid, who only read the back label. Here the two voices stay separate, always.

the house The Garimpo

The house bought it, drank it, checked the price and signs off with Indie’s paw. It’s the house’s only voice on taste.

“The house drank it, paid for it, and would buy it again.”

the table Open Bottle

The table is the readers, who drink and pay out of their own pocket. Open Bottle belongs to them: a photo, checkboxes and a line, with the “Approved by the table” badge. The vote too, in the Rankings ballot box.

“The table drank it, and paid out of its own pocket.”

The non-negotiable rule. Never write tasting notes for a wine nobody drank. Dark fruit, velvety tannins, a long finish: none of that on a card without a stamp.

It’s not about scruples. It’s the one asset the house has that, once broken, can’t be rebuilt.

The stamps

The Patinha da Indie (Indie’s paw), in two inks

When the house drinks it, the garimpo gets a stamp. The difference between the two is the price range, never quality: both say the wine delivered.

Who’s Indie? The house cat. She doesn’t drink, but she shows up in the @vinhozinho comic strips and stamps what the house approved. The paw is hers.

Approved stamp, up to R$ 100
Patinha da Indie · up to R$ 100

The wine up to a hundred reais that delivers more than it promises.

“I don’t drink, I’m a cat. But I watched the bottle run dry before the telenovela came on.”

Worth Every Real stamp, over R$ 100
Patinha de Ouro · over R$ 100

For a birthday, a dinner or a gift: the pricey bottle that earns its price.

“Saved it for six months, drank it in two hours. I call that a verdict.”

People on the list hear first. A new garimpo goes out by e-mail before it hits Instagram. That’s all: the wine, the price and where it was seen. No weekly newsletter, no “exclusive content”.

Done. The next garimpo reaches your inbox before everyone else.

One e-mail per garimpo, plus the house news (the Contrarrótulo and whatever opens next), never more than one a week; and garimpos have no schedule. To leave the list, just reply “sair” (leave), and the address is gone. What the house does with it is in the privacy policy.

The archive

Everything the house has unearthed so far

The price is the one from the day it was seen, and wine prices go up and down. It’s here because a garimpo that disappears is advertising; a garimpo that stays is a record.

Your turn

Found a good wine? Open it and tell us.

A good share of the garimpos here came from readers. Suggestions now come in through the front door: you open the bottle in your cellar, it goes up right away under your nickname, and if the house wants to drink that one, it goes on the shopping list and becomes a stamped garimpo, with your credit on the card.
