Gift a Wine · wine as a gift
Which wine to give as a gift?
Tell us a little about who it’s for; whatever you don’t know, tap “Not sure”. The house picks the bottle, with the price range checked and the reason for the choice, and even writes the card.
A gift for someone who doesn’t drink? There’s alcohol-free wine, and there’s Suco de Uva, the house’s alcohol-free sibling (in Portuguese).
Wine as a gift, no fuss
A good gift is one that suits the person getting it, not the priciest bottle on the shelf. Three questions settle almost everything: how much they know about wine, what they usually drink and how much you want to spend. The rest is fine-tuning.
For someone who knows wine
Someone who knows wine already has their everyday labels. Aim for the best rated within what you can spend, ideally one they won’t find at the corner store. The rating the house shows comes from thousands of people who drank that wine (the public X-Wines database), not from a critic.
For someone just starting out
A well-known label from a famous grape lands better than a rarity. When in doubt, sparkling: it goes with almost everything and already arrives looking like a party. And if they like sweet wine, give sweet: the right wine is the one they like. Port and sparkling Moscatel are sweet wines that make a good impression.
How much to spend
There’s no right amount, and a good gift fits any range. The house only suggests wine whose price range it has checked at big stores in Brazil, with the month it was checked: the exact price changes by city and by week, the range tends to hold. On the house list, almost every wine among the top 10% rated costs over R$ 200; when what you asked for doesn’t fit the budget, the house says so and shows the best that does.
How to give it
- The card is worth more than the box. One line saying why you picked that wine. The house writes one for you at the end of the questions.
- White, rosé and sparkling: if you’ll open it together, bring it chilled. Forgot? Water, ice and salt do it in 15 to 20 minutes (how to chill wine fast).
- Red goes as it is. Just don’t leave the bottle in the car in the sun: heat ruins wine.
- Bringing it to a dinner? Wine you bring is a gift: the host decides whether to open it right away or keep it.
- Simple wrapping does it: tissue paper, a ribbon or a paper bag.
- Wine is a gift for adults (18+).
Where the picks come from
From the house lists: the labels with a price range checked at big stores in Brazil, with the rating from people who drank them. The house doesn’t sell wine and earns nothing from these suggestions. Missing what you were after? The house logs what people ask for and don’t find, and that’s how the price list grows.
