Iron Maiden Darkest Red

A red wine from Douro, Portugal. Full-bodied. A blend of Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão and Touriga Nacional.

The house says

The official Iron Maiden wine, nicknamed Eddie's Blend after Eddie, the band's mascot; the name comes from "Darkest Hour", on the album Senjutsu. It's made by the Van Zeller family in the Douro, with winemaker Álvaro van Zeller: a DOC Douro red blended from Portuguese grapes (Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão and Touriga Nacional, in proportions that change with the vintage), fermented in stainless steel, with part of it spending time in used Port barrels. Full-bodied, with dark fruit (blackberry, black cherry, plum), soft tannins and 13.5% alcohol; the Nordic monopolies' labs measured 10 to 12 g of sugar per litre in the 2024 vintage, which by the Brazilian yardstick makes it medium-dry, with a hint of sweetness. Goes with roast or grilled red meat, lamb, game and pork, served at 16 to 18 °C. It reached Brazil in 2025. It isn't in the X-Wines database, so it has no rating from people who drank it yet: it came in because the house read the label in a photo. Had it? Raise a glass and tell us.

Basic details checked by the house in Sep 2026; acidity will be added once the house checks the label.

No rating from drinkers yetThis label isn't in the X-Wines database, where the search ratings come from. The house added it because the community asked; the house doesn't make up ratings. The community rating, just below, is a different one: it comes from cellar members.
Had it already? Give it a Cheers and tell us on Open Bottle: that's how it gets a voice.

Quick answers

Is Iron Maiden Darkest Red any good?

No rating from drinkers yet: this label is outside the X-Wines database, and the house does not make ratings up. Had it? The community rating, at the top of this page, is yours to give.

How much does Iron Maiden Darkest Red cost?

In Brazil's big stores, the house saw it between R$ 200 and 300 in Sep 2026. That is the range, not the exact price: prices move, the range usually holds. Seen it for a different price? Say so in “Is the price right?”, just above.

Are you this wine's producer?

This page comes from the public X-Wines database or from what the house read on the producer's website. Whoever makes the wine knows best: send the official tech sheet, correct what's wrong or ask for it to come down. No producer pays to get in, to move up or to leave, and the sheet you send takes precedence over any other source.

Goes well with

Red meat, lamb, game, veal and pork.

A suggestion, not a rule: if you liked it another way, you're right.

A label outside X-Wines, an open scientific dataset (de Azambuja, R. X. et al., 2023): basic details gathered and checked by the house, in the month shown under “The house says”; no rating, because ratings aren't made up. The price range is the one the house saw at big stores in Brazil, in the month shown: the price changes, the range tends to stay. Shipping isn't included. The house doesn't sell wine.
